The new National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit No. ILR40 for discharges from Small Municipal Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) issued by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency became effective on March 1, 2016.

Any MS4 covered under the previous NPDES ILR40 Permit is required to renew their permit coverage by submitting a Notice of Intent (NOI) within 90 days of the effective date of the permit. Permit holders are required to comply with any new provisions of the permit within 180 days of the effective date of the permit.
